Wedgetail WTP-1413 Platform
The Wedgetail platform roof rack has been developed to fill the need for a new generation composite assembly platform roof rack with the strength to maintain its full load rating on the toughest of off-road tracks.
Built to fit a wide range of 4x4 utes and wagons and selected vans, the Wedgetail platform roof rack is fitted onto a set of mounting rails that are bolted to mounting lugs connected into the sub-structure of the roof or onto the roof gutters and held in place by bolt-on clips.
These mounts spread the weight of the roof rack and its load over the whole mounting system and have the strength to cope with extended periods of off-road use.
Design
The Wedgetail rack was developed by our team of engineers to take advantage of custom designed components and new composite materials. Super strong aluminium was moulded into two profiles for use in the platform frame and for the crossbars. A number of materials were tested for use as the corner fittings until the final components were approved.
Testing
A series of prototypes were manufactured and stress tested on a range of vehicles and on the toughest offroad tracks with the maximum load allowed. The Wedgetail rack went through two years of development and testing before it was approved for manufacture.
Frame and crossbars
Manufactured using 6060 grade aluminium and extruded in Australia to custom profiles for use as frame components or as crossbars. The frame components are designed for maximum dynamic strength while the crossbars are designed to withstand the direct downwards pressures generated by the weight of items carried on the rack or by accessories fitted on the crossbars.
The frame bars are pre-punched with holes at between 250 and 310 mm spacing for locating of crossbars and fixing of wind deflectors.
All bar components are powder coated in matt black.
Wedge-lock corner units
The corner units are moulded using a composite of nylon and glass-reinforcing mixed with other strengthening substances. Once cast the corner units are machined to remove surplus materials and mounting holes are drilled.
The Wedge-lock corner units have a flanged nut inserted into the outside of the bolt hole. The ends of the corner units are fitted into the frame rails and 8 mm stainless steel bolts are used to fix them in place, creating a strong joint.

How It FitsThe Wedgetail roof rack utilizes our robust, Wedge-wing mounting spine, which is designed for vehicle-specific mounting. This spine secures firmly to your vehicle using its unique attachment method, providing a precise and integrated fit. The Wedgetail platform then bolts directly to this mounting spine. This design offers a higher load rating, improved aesthetics, and the added benefit of easy removal when you don't need the rack on your vehicle.
How Accessories Attach
The Wedgetail platform features sturdy crossbars that run across the vehicle. These crossbars have a heavy-duty channel on both the top and bottom. This clever design allows any Wedgetail accessories to be quickly locked into place or removed. It also means a wide variety of other accessories can easily be fitted to your Wedgetail rack if needed, giving you great versatility.
Minimizing Wind Noise
Every Wedgetail Rack comes standard with a wind deflector to significantly minimize wind noise. Additionally, Wedgetail racks include our unique Wedge-flow crossbar design, which is the culmination of years of experience in reducing noise. There are no deliveries made on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays by our couriers.
Typically, We will despatch orders the next working day. Orders placed on Friday will generally be despatched the following work day which would be Monday of the following or the next working day. Orders placed 1 day prior or on the same day as a public holiday will be despatched the next working day.
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a next working day delivery.
All courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems that can happen to everyone, inclusive of but not limited to: snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Please note that we cannot be held responsible for the consequences of any delay caused by the failure of our contracted couriers to fulfil their obligations, although we will always do all that is reasonable to provide the goods by the time required. Please also note that the percentage of delayed deliveries is very small, and the percentage of items lost in transit is all but non-existent.
